The week of October 16th, 2023, Castelli students attended the World Food Forum Flagship event at the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome. Food Action Accelerates Climate Action was the theme of the event. The students learned various ways to reduce food waste as well as what foods to eat that are both good for our health and for the health of our planet.  For example, they learned that the amount of water required to produce 1 kg. of meat is three times more than the amount of water required to produce 1 kg of lentils. They learned that meat has no fiber, whereas lentils are not only full of fiber but they are also a valid source of protein as well as having abundant amounts of macronutrients and micronutrients.

Some of our students were also fortunate enough to be selected as “Youth Reporters” and very much enjoyed interviewing some VIPs, like the Minister of Agriculture of El Salvador as well as representatives from other countries.

The second major event our students participated actively in is the European edition of the Maker Faire. From October 20th to 22nd, our students presented an amazing project in biofabrication and sustainable design: “From Mushroom to Masterpiece”. The students not only designed and created the plastic-free lamps, but they also took an active part in designing and building the stand for the Maker Faire. They enthusiastically and  tirelessly presented their project to hundreds of interested attendees. This was an incredible opportunity to show the world how to replace plastic with a new biotechnology that grows on waste.

Castelli International School students are actively involved in making a difference in this world for a sustainable future.
