Letter from the Head

Dear Parents,

I hope you are having a restful break with your children. October has proven to be another stimulating month at school full of exciting events. From the elementary theme week on “What a Wonderful World”, to the outstanding “Eating the Rainbow” healthy eating workshops, to various fun House events in the Middle School that included a Cross-Country Run, a Charity Bake Sale which raised €383, 30 and a Pumpkin Carving contest. 

The two key events in the Middle School were the students’ participation as presenters of their project “From  Mushroom to Masterpiece” in the European edition of the Maker Faire and their participation in the World Food Forum YUNGA School Assembly at the FAO, both as attendees and “Youth Reporters”.  Grades 5 and 8 participated in this international event together with many heads of state and government ministers. A few of our students even interviewed some of these VIPs! The theme of the event was “Food Action Accelerates Climate Action”. The students came back inspired to push for habit changes that will help create a more sustainable future. 

In the Elementary School, despite the rather troubled times that we live in, the focus this month has been to emphasise the positive things we see all around us. The children learnt the REM classic, ‘Shiny Happy People’ in assembly, which heralded the start of this year’s theme week ‘What a Wonderful World’ and what a wonderful week it proved to be! 

There was a hive of activity on campus as the children enthusiastically worked on their chosen aspect of the theme. Kindergarten focused on the rainbow, Grade 1 on life under the sea, Grade 2 on the Amazon rainforest, Grade 3 on one of the world’s most practiced religions (Hinduism), Grade 4 on the animals of the world and Grade 5 on planet earth. The children then put all of their learning together into a series of entertaining assemblies, as they taught the rest of the school about all the amazing things they had discovered - using art, music, dance and drama to do so. By the time it had all come to an end, the children were desperate to know what the next theme week would be about!

October ended in style with a fabulous Halloween party organised by CIPA for the elementary students with lots of games and scrumptious healthy treats. The middle school teachers organized fun and games at the sports field followed by yummy cookies made by the middle school students as well as a chestnut roast!

A big, big thank you to all that organized and helped make this afternoon special and super fun for the students. A huge thank you also to  the faculty and staff, students and parents that helped organise, create, design and set up the stand at the Maker Faire. This team work was essential for the exceptional success this sustainable project had.

Cari genitori,

Spero che stiate trascorrendo una breve e riposante vacanza con i vostri figli. Ottobre si è rivelato un altro mese stimolante, ricco di eventi scolastici entusiasmanti. Dalla settimana a tema elementare su "Che mondo meraviglioso", ai straordinari laboratori per un’ alimentazione sana "Mangiare l'arcobaleno", a vari eventi divertenti nella scuola media, tra i quali, una corsa campestre, una vendita di dolci di beneficenza che ha raccolto € 383,30 ed una prova di abilità di  intaglio di zucche.

I due eventi più importanti della scuola media sono stati la partecipazione degli studenti all'edizione europea della Maker Faire, nella quale i ragazzi hanno esibito e spiegato il  loro progetto “Dal fungo al capolavoro” e la loro partecipazione all'Assemblea scolastica del World Food Forum YUNGA presso la FAO, sia in veste di partecipanti che di “Giovani Reporter”. Le classi 5 e 8 hanno partecipato a questo evento internazionale insieme a molti capi di stato e ministri di governo. Alcuni dei nostri studenti hanno addirittura intervistato alcuni di questi VIP! Il tema dell’evento era “L’azione alimentare accelera l’azione per il clima”. Gli studenti sono tornati ispirati a promuovere cambiamenti nelle abitudini che contribuiranno a creare un futuro più sostenibile.

Nella scuola elementare, nonostante gli eventi internazionali problematicia del momento, gli studenti hanno enfatizzato quanto di positivo c’è intorno a noi. I ragazzi, riuniti in assemblea,  hanno imparato a cantare il brano classico dei REM, “Shiny Happy People”, che ha annunciato l’inizio della settimana a tema di quest’anno “Che mondo meraviglioso”, settimana che si è poi rivelata essere veramente magnifica!

Mentre i ragazzi lavoravano con entusiasmo sull'aspetto scelto del tema, il campus era un crogiuolo di attività. La scuola materna si è concentrata sull’arcobaleno, la prima elementare sulla vita sottomarina, la seconda sulla foresta amazzonica, la terza su una delle religioni più praticate al mondo (l’induismo), la quarta sugli animali del mondo e la quinta sul pianeta terra. I ragazzi hanno poi rappresentato tutto ciò che avevano imparato in una serie di stimolanti assemblee, durante le quali, hanno insegnato ai compagni delle altre classi tutte le cose straordinarie che avevano scoperto, utilizzando gli strumenti dell'arte, della musica, della danza e del teatro.  Mentre tutto volgeva al termine, i ragazzi hanno subito chiesto quale sarebbe stata la prossima settimana a tema!

Ottobre si è concluso in bellezza con una favolosa festa di Halloween organizzata dal CIPA per gli alunni delle elementari, con tanti giochi e golose e salutari leccornie. Gli insegnanti delle scuole medie hanno organizzato, al campo sportivo,  giochi ed intrattenimenti a cui ha fatto seguito la degustazione dei  biscotti preparati dagli studenti delle scuole medie e delle caldarroste!

Un grande, grande ringraziamento a tutti coloro che hanno organizzato la festa e contribuito a rendere questo pomeriggio speciale e super divertente per gli studenti. Un enorme ringraziamento anche al corpo docente ed al personale, agli studenti e ai genitori che hanno contribuito a progettare, creare, organizzare ed allestire lo stand alla Maker Faire. Un lavoro di squadra che è stato essenziale per conseguire l’eccezionale successo di questo progetto ecosostenibile.

All'inizio del nuovo anno scolastico i genitori devono compilare e sottoscrivere i seguenti documenti per ciascun alunno iscritto. Una volta compilati i documenti vanno inviati via email al seguente indirizzo: office@castelli-international.it
